Week of the Amazing Aunts – M’Lissa

M’Lissa, Bishop and Mike

I’m telling you all right off … your life isn’t complete without a big sister. Scratch that, older sister. “Big” is not a term appreciated by older sisters (take note, Katie and Hannah).

Most of my early memories with M’Lissa are documented in pictures of Disneyland adventures. She is my half sister and moved to California when I was still quite young. Hence … Disneyland and M’Lissa became synonymous. When I went to California I got to see M’Lissa. When I saw M’Lissa I got to go to Disneyland. Cool beans.

Fast forward to 2006, M’Lissa and Mike are getting married. A year later, Dominic and I were married. 2009 brought my very first nephew, Bishop and in 2010 I’m gonna give him a niece or nephew. WOOHOO!

Somewhere between weddings and babies, M’Lissa and I became e-pals. I would write her a wedding question and she would blast back a whole portfolio of research, ideas, and pictures. AWESOME! Then baby comes along and I have an arsenal of knowledge on all things baby, complete with reviews, books, and the inside scoop (no fluff allowed). M’Lissa has been through alot of mommy obstacles with Bishop … allergies, cardiologists, daycare, sleep training and much more. I’m pretty much banking on the fact that if I have a question, she is going to have an answer. I’m telling you, having a sister who has “been there and done that” is priceless to the core.

I can’t express how thankful I am for her wit and wisdom. There is a certain sense of peace knowing you can call someone up and vent, cry, or ask them questions about the unknowns of baby land. It is pretty much a lifesaver in these unchartered waters of motherhood. Plus, I have the added perk of being able to run away to California if I ever need a break for real life :)

Thank you M’Lissa for being such an awesome sister. I am blessed to have you in my life!!!
