A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned – Indoor Garden

Each month for the rest of 2012 I’ll be featuring ways you can be a bit more frugal. As Ben Franklin said, “A penny saved is a penny earned.” And who doesn’t like to have a few extra pennies around :)

Did you know that you can grow your own green onions year round?

A few months ago I bought one bunch of green onions for $0.99. I snipped off the few bits I needed for my recipe and parked the remaining onions in an old juice container on my window sill. And there it has grown and replenished probably 5 times and counting!

$0.99 for never-ending green onions, that’s a DO!

What kitchen tricks do you frequently use? I’d love to try them out!

It's true! Mine have lasted me a whole year in the garden – I have about 15 plants and they just keep growing back. I do this with garlic as well though it does not grow as fast!
