Bear with me! I promise, as boring as it sounds to deep clean your dishwasher, it is a must and I’m going to help make this Spring cleaning task as easy as possible. Deep cleaning your dishwasher is totally something you can start in just a few minutes AND, best of all, if you use safe products, your kiddos can help!

I honestly don’t think I realized that dishwashers needed to be cleaned. I mean, it’s their job to clean dirty dishes so shouldn’t they inherently be clean themselves? With detergent and hot water rumbling around everyday it should stay clean, but, by the looks of mine, that just isn’t the case. Dishwashers apparently need a deep clean every once in a while! Who knew?
At first glance I found a gross film around the seal of my dishwasher. Then their was grime in the soap dispenser. Underneath the bottom rack I found bits of who knows what trapped in a filter. Pretty much, my dishwasher wasn’t the cleanest. I say that past tense, because friends, my dishwasher ***shines*** now! Here’s how I whipped it in to shape in less than 15 minutes!
ONE — Make sure your dishwasher is empty. Obvious, no? Well, mine seems to always be mid-cycle so before I could start this project I had to unload.
TWO — With a dish rag and Lemi Shine Glass + Surface Cleaner I pre-scrubbed all visible parts of the inside and outside. This immediately took care of the film around the seal and loosened bits of yuck that had been trapped in various spots. The Lemi Shine spritz also took care of about 400 fingerprints that were smudged on the outside of the dishwasher.
THREE — Now, the deep cleaning! I used Lemi Shine Dishwasher Cleaner which allowed me to dump a pouch into my dishwasher, turn it on, and walk away! This is recommended once a month, but if you’re a slacker like me, you’ll manage to do it once-every-time-you-happen-to-remember and that’s good enough too.

FIVE — I wrapped up my deep cleaning by running a regular load of dishes, because yes, in the midst of this short project a whole meal’s worth of dishes had found its way into my sink.
