12 in 2012: Yoga

Despite being mega tired these days I started yoga last night! It was a prenatal yoga class and I met some lovely mamas and two great instructors. I can’t wait to go back next Wednesday. Well, yes I can, I need awhile for my muscles to recover from all the squats we did!
Yoga is going to be my weekly mama activity and although it was hard, it was totally rewarding. I learned quite a few new poses, felt muscles I didn’t know I had, and confirmed my favorite part of yoga … the 5 minutes of rest and quiet at the end :)
One of my best friends has been taking yoga lately and her teacher read this poem during the ever-coveted quiet time at the end. I love peaceful things like this!
WALK SLOWLY
-Danna Faulds-
It only takes a reminder to breathe,
A moment to be still, and just like that,
Something in me settles, softens, makes
Space for imperfection.  The harsh voice
Of judgment drops to a whisper and I
Remember again that life isn’t a relay
Race; that we will all cross the finish
Line; that waking up to life is what we
Were born for.  As many times as I
Forget, catch myself charging forward
Without even knowing where I’m going,
That many times I can make the choice
To stop, to breathe, and be, and walk
Slowly into the mystery.

yoga will rock your pregnancy and delivery! I only missed class once because I was in labor… and actually I thought about going, but was afraid it might progress it too much and then I wouldn't be able to get home in time for the birth. Good for you!!

I did yoga during both of my pregnancies. During my first pregnancy, I took a class once a week (which did help). Then, during my second, I did a video about 5-6 times a week and that was AMAZING! If you are interested, I heartily recommend this video (it has a different workout for each trimester and then a couple of extras for back pain, morning sickness, etc).http://www.amazon.com/Yoga-Pregnancy-individual-prenatal-workouts/dp/B0036VNMZA/ref=sr_1_cc_3?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1327951941&sr=1-3-catcorr

I'm totally planning on sticking with it – hope it gives me some extra stamina during labor this go around.

Oooo, thanks for the link! I should definitely work in some sessions at home. Although, I've spent most of this week recovering from too many squats! My poor muscles!
