5 Days

The big move is in 5 days. We’re getting to be pros at moving seeing that we have conquered 3 moves in our short 2 1/2 years of marriage …

  • Move #1 (August 2007) – into our first apartment (AKA Little Mexico) the week before our wedding.
  • Move #2 (August 2008) – into the upgrade, sweet cul-de-sac duplex
  • Move #3 (August 2009) – into the way-too-big-for-just-the-2-of-us house
  • Move #4 (June 2010) – 5 DAYS AWAY!!!

When it comes to moving we have designated tasks. Dominic assembles all boxes. I pack all boxes (it is a puzzle piece science to do it just right). Dominic moves everything into “packing zones” … this time it’s the garage for all downstairs items and the spare bedroom for all upstairs items). Dominic rents a truck and recruits buff moving friends. I make lunch and direct where to put things. I unpack for weeks and weeks …

This weekend I packed all of the boxes we have. It’s time for another trip to U-Haul … I still need to pack all of our bedding, lamps and have some boxes available for the final sweep of random things.

It’s kind of like we are on vacation … we don’t have a ton of clothes/toiletries left out. All of the kitchen things are packed. This week we are limited to paper plates, paper cups, the toaster, and a random mix of pantry items. I’m highly encouraging everyone to eat things from the fridge so I have less to pack up there. All the freezer items have migrated to the deep freezer in the garage.

Moving is a chore, but I keep telling myself I’m a champ for piecing it all together while pregnant. (That and Dominic is the best person to have on your team when it comes to a move). Fourth times a charm … right?
