I’m telling you baby, you have a fun aunt waiting for you to arrive! Your Aunt Katie skydives, rock climbs, participates in the January Ice Plunge, slacklines, bowls, and runs in the rain for fun. If I’m not something, your Aunt Katie will fill in the gap for sure!
Katie is 3 years younger than me. I pride myself on being the one to pick out her name … I vaguely recall telling my Mom “Katie” was a good name if the baby in her tummy turned out to be a sister. My mom morphed Katie into Katherine, but baby Katherine has been Katie ever since she was born; that and Katietoe, Special K, Raptor and a smothering of other obnoxious nicknames over the years.
This girl has weathered the storm with me as a big sister. The big, bossy sister to be exact. She survived many a rough encounter while we grew up. Like the time I “tossed” her down the stairs resulting in an episode of having the wind knocked out of her. Or the few times I tried to convince her she was adopted because of her red hair. Of course, I could have been nicer, but isn’t it the older sister’s job to roughen up the little sister so she is ready for the world?
With all that said, God knew what he was giving me when He blessed me with Katie. She is loyal to a fault and her compassionate heart and love for all things outdoors stretch me in ways I never imaged. It’s true when I say she will fill in the my mom gaps … she’ll host activities for my kids I could never offer (I mean, seriously, do I look like the kind of girl who is going to jump out of a plane?). It truly takes a village to raise and child and I thank my lucky stars Katie is in my village! Love you Raptor!
P.S. Katie is graduating from Pacific Lutheran this weekend. At the age of 20. With a degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Biology. Pure amazingness I tell ya!

I hope my oldest loves having a baby sister as much as you do!
