I’m a big believer in breakfasts. Nothing starts everyone off on the right foot like a solid breakfast filled with protein, fruit, dairy, whole grains and a little something extra special like our friends Snap, Crackle and Pop :)
After breakfasts, I’m big into presentation with a dash of bribery. Jem always appreciates a cute spread to make her meals more enticing and these days, it is my only hope with Max. Mr. Picky does not give me a break! Anything I can do to wow him during this season of lame eating habits sends me running to give it a try.
And so, in honor of back to school season, may I present an alternative, and may I say a much more awesome, use for those simple little pencil caddies found in Target’s Dollar Section!
I love love love that pencil caddies have a handle and thus, the kids are able to balance their own breakfast without spilling. Whether they’re carrying it to the table or out the door for a morning on the go, pencil caddies are proving to be pretty fabulous around here. And yes, they’re dishwasher safe so clean up is breeze! #amenandhallelujah
We’ve tried a handful of trios in our pencil caddy breakfasts and the favorite recipe is this …
INGREDIENTS
- Greek yogurt topped with Kellogg’s Rice Krispies
- Strawberry Nutri-Grain bar
- Fresh fruit – today, sliced strawberries
DIRECTIONS
First, gather your supplies – a simple pencil caddy and spoon if one of your ingredients requires some scooping. Second, begin filling each section. I love that Nutri-Grain bars are pre-wrapped and ready to go – they stand perfectly in spot #1. For spot #2 my daughter requested yogurt and I surprised her with a crunchy mix-in thanks to Rice Krispies! It only seemed right to balance everything out with a bit of morning fruit, spot #3 filled right up with strawberries!
We stocked up on everything, including the pencil caddies, at mama’s one true love —> Target. Rice Krispies were easily spied by Max on the cereal aisle and Jemma said that strawberry was the only logical choice for Nutri-Grain bars when we browsed the Breakfast section of the snack aisle. I had a vote in for mixed berry, but I’m only the mom, so, nice try, G-Boss.
