Jemmie has been super sick all week.
She had all the signs of a bad cold – fever, cough, irritability, mama only snuggles, snotty nose, no appetite. And then the poor thing stopped having wet diapers so we marched over to our pediatrician yesterday and he ruled out anything super dangerous, but recommended that we head to the ER for an IV to get her hydrated.
My poor girl! Checked into the hospital!!!
It was never serious, but we wanted to stay ahead of the game and get her hydrated so she would hopefully get a boost of energy and start eating and drinking more on her own.
But still, the hospital :(
We got checked in, settled into our room and Jemma experienced the nose sucker from hell. Because let’s face it, drinking from a sippy is really hard when you can’t breathe out of your nose. She didn’t seem keen on drinking even after than so she got strapped into an awful baby papoose so her arm was still for her blood draw and IV. No pictures of that — no mama wants to remember the wide eyed terror of her little one not understanding what is going on and why she can’t wiggle away :(
We confirmed her oxygen levels were good – which her pediatrician had been concerned about, and ruled out croup, whooping cough, and pneumonia. After all was said and done, it turns out she has bronchiolitis and dehydration was a complication of it lasting so long.
Dominic was out of town for the day with work and made it to us right after Jemma’s IV got in. He was a shaken and worried Daddy. He loves his little girl so much!
We made it home around 8pm and Jemma settled in for the night. She slept SO WELL after battling her new nurse friends – no temperature overnight either. YAY! The plan is to try our best to keep her hydrated – which is easier said than done with a stubborn toddler. The goal is to have 1 wet diaper every 8 hours, if not, back to the ER we go :(

That is just awful! Our eldest has been to the ER twice – once for a seizure and once for falling. Both included having to hold her down for various things (CTs, X-rays, EEG), I feel your pain! Hope you don't have to go back!

This is my biggest fear (going to the ER with my little). Thanks for posting it so calmly and matter of factly. Hope she's feeling better!!!

Our hospital had a pediatric emergency wing – they were super with her! Jemma reads so much off of my emotions so I did my best to stay calm. It was really reassuring that they kept reminding me that it wasn't an emergency, the emergency room is just where they do IVs. Made sense and kept me calm … ish.

Poor Jemma and mommy/daddy. Broke my heart reding this. Praying she gets better fast so no more trips to the ER.

Oh I know how awful that feels! Last year Ethan had RSV and was in the hospital for 1 week. Its the worst feeling in the whole world. :( Glad that she is back home and doing better. ((HUGS))

Oh, my gosh, my eyes are welling up just looking at those sad little pictures. I'm so glad she's relatively ok and wish you (both!) a speedy recovery.

I know! I almost didn't want to remember those pictures, but seeing how much better she is doing today warms my heart!

Oh what a sick sad little face. All drama aside, they are so cute when they are sick. Hope that Jemma girl gets better soon!
