Is decaf a sin?

In the first few months of pregnancy I struggled to drink my recommended 80 ounces of water. Don’t get me wrong, I love water. It is my beverage of choice most days, but 80 ounces … that is alot. 22 weeks in, I’ve got it down to a science and have started to incorporate other beverages … juice, milk, cream soda and decaf coffee drinks.

Wait, did I just say COFFEE?

Yes, I did. I’ve been keeping it a secret and trying my best to drink it sparingly, but due to my secretness I think I am having some some minor guilt about my love of lattes.

What do you think about coffee and pregnancy? Does decaf make it ok?

Be honest, if I have to cut it out for good, I will. But, if not I would love some reassurance that I am not as guilty as I feel.

Aside from not drinking it the first trimester (because of feeling CRAPPY!), I drank coffee with all three pregnacies. I didn't go overboard, maybe 2 cups a day, some decaf, some regular. My doctors okayed it and everything turned out fine. Plus, I wasn't a raving lunatic the entire 9 months! I also drink/drank while nursing, again, in moderation. I'm sure there are people who don't agree with me and think I'm wrong, but life is too short to worry about what other's are thinking about me!!! Love you!!

My doctor said it is fine…even regular as long as you don't go over board. I am a coffee lover! and before pregnancy, i know I drank way more than i should have been. But i still drink it…but I stick to decaf, that way i don't feel bad if I want sweet tea or a little soda that does have caffine. like melissa said above, people are always going to tell you that what you are doing is wrong, but if your baby is ok and your doctor is ok with it…i wouldn't listen to them :)

I think it's just fine! After all, pregnancy forces a girl to give up her figure, don't make her give up coffee or chocolate (or any dessert for that matter.)

I am a huge nerd (especially haveing worked in 4 different coffee shops) and somehow missed the fact that chai tea has LOTS of caffeine…yup, Eli turned out just fine. I drank at least 2 of those a day thinking I was being so good. Oh well!
