Forever and always I’ve been a lover of Jamba Juice’s steel cut oats. Topped with brown sugar and banana slices, of course. When I was pregnant with Jemma I made Jamba a routine stop most mornings. And it added up. But, whatevs, I was a working lady … who was quite hungry!
This pregnancy I found myself still loving those oats, but our local Jamba is inside of a mall. Do I need to say more? Parking + kids + all things “mall” = no oatmeal is worth it. And that is what spurred my plans to fine a copycat recipe. AND. I. DID.
It took a little trial and error, but I promise you, these steel cut oats will change your breakfast routine while making your belly full and happy!

- 3 cups vanilla soy milk
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup steel cut oats
- Brown sugar
- Bananas
- In a saucepan over medium heat bring soy milk and water to a boil. Add oats and boil for 5 minutes with frequent stirring.
- Lower heat, add a lid, and allow oats to simmer for 20-30 minutes.
- Serve immediately with your topping choice or allow to cool and refrigerate for easy morning warm ups.
Have you ever tried using a rice cooker for this? Also, if I wanted to half the recipe would it still turn out the same?
I haven’t tried a rice cooker … good idea! And yes, I think halving would work just fine :)
I’ve been meaning to tell you how grateful I am to have found this recipe, It truly is amazing!! The only tweaking I did was adding brown sugar when it begins simmering. I’m not a fan of overnight oats, i feel like it always becomes gelatinous 😖! Either way, thank you so much!
Not the same. The brown sugar crumble from jamba isn’t just plain brown sugar.
Here’s the recipe that I use to make the crumble. This along with your oatmeal recipe should be a perfect duplicate of Jamba Juice oatmeal w/brown sugar crumble.
Hope u enjoy as much as I do!!!
1/2 c brown sugar
2 T flour
4 T ground regular quick oats (I would suggest grounding a couple cups of them in your blender or processor and keep the extra in the pantry for next time)
Dash of cinnamon
2 T butter, melted
Mix all the dry ingredients together and then slowly add butter while mixing. Keep covered well and this should last you all week
Oh, thank you! This sounds amazing!
