Home Sweet Home

We moved into our new house 6 weeks ago.

After that we had a few weeks of solid progress. Lots of organization, cleaning and setting up house. Then something called summer happened and we decided to take a break from it all. The upstairs has taken the brunt of our relaxation, but last night we put the finishing touches on the downstairs.

That’s right, pictures are now on the wall and for all intents and purposes I would consider the downstairs to be complete! Here is a lovely preview of our handy work …

This house has amazing built-in bookshelves. My-oh-my … love at first site. I adore built-ins. It If I get to brag about one thing it is my bookshelf skills. Eclectic and homey is my style … no plain bookstore bookshelf at our house! Lots of pictures, books and sweet knick knacks. Even though I swore never to be a knick knack person.

When my sister, Katie, was in Italy 2 years ago she took tons of pictures of Italian doors. These were some of our favorites and even though I’ve never been to Italy I figure I can dream about it through these doors. I mean, this baby is going to be 12.5% Italian so we have to represent somehow!

These pictures are from the Flora and Fauna calendar I lusted over last December. It was $25 and that is way out my price range for a calendar. But, when it can double as wall art and your lovely mother-in-law gives it to you as a gift, well, that’s just peachy.

I purchase my calendars the day after Christmas. There's usually still pretty good selection and they are marked down 50%. Then I can splurge on that oh so perfect calendar. I love the idea of framing the pictures. Something so easy, yet I've totally never thought of it before. Thanks for the idea!

I think we have similar decorating styles – I like eclectic on my book shelves too (though the "book" part of them is currently overflowing, so I'll need to do some work on that).I've also used calendars as art before – though we did laminates of some retro poster art for our kitchen to add to that style.I wanted to let you know that I gave you an award. You can check it out here: Hi,While I just found your blog, I really enjoyed reading through it, so I gave you an award. You can see it here: http://mommycrat.blogspot.com/2010/08/and-again-w….

I love the picture of the doors and how sweet that it has meaning since your sister actually took the pictures!

For some silly reason this calendar never went on sale! It was crazy … like they knew it was too pretty to discount, lol!
