Home in June?

We think we might have found a place to move! It will be available the first weekend of June and we’re just waiting to hear back on our application. Cross your fingers!

The rental market has been quite a fiasco. You would think there are lots of options out there, but no. Nice houses (newer, clean, enough space) are few and far between. The other week we lost a house we thought we loved when someone from out of town put the $1,300 deposit down without even seeing the inside! Yep, it’s dog eat dog out here.

We checked out the new potential last night and submitted our application on the spot. It isn’t everything we dreamed of, but it fulfills the necessities. Necessities include:
  • 4 bedrooms – one for us, one for Naomi … our roommate, one for baby, and a guest/office room.
  • Clean & New – the house we live in now is a bit older and therefore came with old carpet, dirty windows, etc. etc. I’ve learned that I’m a new home kinda girl. Either that, or super crazily cleaned by extreme professionals then I could go for something older. This has been a hard transition for me because I adore the charm of older homes. Dominic says the happy medium is us building our dream craftsman home … someday.
  • Garage – I’m not running from the car — in the rain — with a baby — and 10+ bags of groceries. Garage is a must — I live in Washington.
  • A/C – if you don’t think this is important, take Dominic on a cruise to the Caribbean and watch him suffer. Life isn’t fun without A/C.
  • Location – Vancouver has alot of suburbs. Some I love, some I hate. I wanted to end up in one of the love locations … or at least close to it. This house is close.
  • Bathtub – I can take a bath every night if given the opportunity. It is my peaceful time. The house we are in right now does not have a tub in the master and it has been hell to put it nicely. Gretchen without peaceful time is like Dominic without A/C.
The only negative about this house is the bedrooms sizes. I am quite concerned about our king size bed and 2 nightstands fitting in the master. Yep, it’s tiny. The master bathroom follows suite with only 1 sink and; we were really hoping for his and hers. Call us crazy, but we’re not really the sharing kind of couple. We like our own sink space. Other than that, it’s going to work. I’ll get creative with the small space and have a garage sale to get rid of stuff we’ve been toting around for the last 3 moves. It’s going to be great. I hope …

We should hear back in the next few days about our application. We’re hoping it helps that the homeowner is a Jayhawk fan just like Dom :)
