Back to School with Smile Zemi

Today’s post is in collaboration with Smile Zemi … you’re going to love it!

Needless to say, adding a fourth child to my homeschool crew has not been easy. Don’t get me wrong, I love having the kids at home and we do many subjects together. But managing the rotation of group learning, independent focus, and one-on-one time with me has left me reeling more days than not. It’s just a lot. Partially due to the wide age range – Jemma has moved on to high school coursework and Charlie is a very busy three year old … then I’ve the three middle boys all at various stages of learning! Feel me?

This year it has become imperative that I find (and stick to!) a solid rhythm to make sure we chug along at an appropriate pace. It’s a balancing act with four school-age kids plus a preschooler! A big key to that rhythm is figuring out what each child can do successfully on their own.

Take Eli for example. He is six, almost seven, right now. He’s a social first grader and prefers to draw over all things. And he is an amazing artist! I try to build in lots of time for his art but after our reading practicing and math workbook it is ideal that he do some review of core subjects on his own while I work with some of his siblings. This year we were given the opportunity to try out the Smile Zemi tablet and this learning tool is fitting our educational needs in many ways!

What Is Smile Zemi?

Smile Zemi is an educational tablet designed for students in grades 1 to 5. It is not an app so there is no temptation to float to games or movies. Everything on the tablet is focused on math and language arts … but in a fun way!

The Smile Zemi tablet provides independent learning in core subjects (just what we need!) with motivational rewards for kids and progress reports for parents. In many ways it assumes the place of a learning center or tutor at a fraction of the price.

What We Love About Smile Zemi

  • Easy interface for parents and kids
  • Progressively scaled learning system
  • No distractions (like we’ve encountered with iPad learning apps) as Smile Zemi is a closed system
  • Travel mode for lessons on the go
  • Fun tasks/assignments/games kids are excited to complete … Eli said, “This doesn’t even feel like school!”
