The Best Fiction of 2017

BEST FICTION

I’m asked often how I find time to read with little ones around.

And I get it, who has time for novels when you’ve got snacks to prepare, laundry to do, and babies to snuggle? I’ll share soon how I fit in reading (I promise, it’s not rocket science!), but for now, I wanted to highlight my favorite fiction books from the last year!

If you only choose to read a few books this year, you might as well start with good recommendations, right? Here are my top picks …

The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes

Historical fiction, like, WOW! I’m a sucker for World War dramas and this one covered it all. I actually listened on audio through the library and the reader’s accent made it come alive. Jojo Moyes is an intense author, in my opinion, but I thoroughly enjoy the stories she develops. The Ship of Brides was another complex, but interesting story.

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

A book loving friend recommended this one to me and she was right … winner! It’s both heartbreaking and powerful. Lily is a strong, amazing character and as her story unfolds, you’ll feel as if she’s a dear friend. Trigger warning: abuse.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

If you want to love a book character, get ready to love Lara Jean! She’s one of three sisters so I particularly loved that aspect. Han eloquently portrays the high school setting without making you cringe too.

One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This was the first Reid book I read and probably my favorite. It leaves you guessing up to the very end! A fast, fabulous read.

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

One of my favorite things to do is read a book before seeing the movie, or, in this case, the miniseries. I devoured Handmaid’s before jumping into the TV show on Hulu. Both are amazing and I CANNOT wait for season two (a spinoff of the book, there is sadly no book two).

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

If I gave out an author of the year award, Reid would win! I read everything by her this year and am waiting for something fabulous to debut next! This one was edgy and interesting and I’m in awe of Reid’s character development skills.

Frostblood by Elly Blake

If you liked Hunger Games, you’ll enjoy this series. The unique caste system and superpowers will draw you in and send you running for book two.

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

I think this is the fastest book I read all year. Such a page turner! Since the mass majority of you are moms, I will share a spoiler to save you from having a heart attack … the baby is safe. Now, go and enjoy this mystery without the worry of bad dreams.
