Wonderful things are happening this weekend in the world of American Girl … the latest character in the contemporary collection, Z Yang, is joining the AG family! You can celebrate her arrival at home (medium fun) or join in the activities at the American Girl store closest to you (very, very fun!)!

From the small screen to real life, come celebrate the debut of Z Yang, a stop-motion filmmaker from Seattle and American Girl’s newest contemporary character! This event will showcase some of Z’s favorite things, including filmmaking and stop-motion. Girls will also be able to channel their inner director with a special giveaway, featuring a doll-sized movie clapboard and director visor, and can make their own stop-motion film with a Z-themed paper doll craft.
Z, short for Suzie, is a Korean-American girl from Seattle. Hence, she’s an automatic favorite according to Jemma! Between the Seattle connection, sweet ponytails, and Z’s glitter shoes it doesn’t surprise me that Jemma is smitten. Plus, Jemma has photography aspirations (she has already asked for her own camera!) and recently participated in an American Girl themed photo challenge. I’m guessing Z will inspire her to give stop-motion a try too!
As an answer to American Girl fans call for more diverse characters with exciting hobbies, Z is the perfect addition thanks to her Korean heritage and filmmaking skills. She specializes in stop-motion, the latest and greatest in filmmaking, and you can see Z’s her first stop-motion here! It’s so fun to watch! Jemma and Max are both enthralled with everything the Z Crew has put out. And they love Popcorn, Z’s sidekick :)
