Little Walker Perfection + a Freshly Picked Giveaway!

Reid threw me for a loop when he didn’t start walking around his 1st birthday.

When we saw his pediatrician at 8 months he was standing and walking along furniture and she said he would be walking steady real soon. Love her, but she obviously wasn’t clued in to Reid’s timeline. Reid was 15 months when he  decided to take his first steps. Normal, but later than I expected based on his big siblings!

Now, at 16 months, he’s a pretty confident little walker. He never crawls anymore, except on the stairs, and practically runs after Max when they play together.

In my most recent kid item purge (which seems constant with all these little ones!) I sorted all of the boy’s shoes. A whole big tub of them! I had two piles — the ones I wanted to save for our new little man  that Reid has outgrown plus old one’s of Max’s that Reid will eventually wear and an adios pile! And you know what? In size 6 and under, the ONLY shoes I kept were Freshly Picked moccasins

For early walkers they are everything — comfortable, ergonomic, soft. They’re versatile too. We wear moccasins for Sunday church, park play dates, with jeans, with shorts, and with pajamas on errands. Freshly Picked moccasins stretch on easy and don’t fall off. I repeat, THEY DO NOT FALL OFF. If Reid works real hard he can wiggle one off after a longer trip in his car seat, but when he walks (or swings), they’re snug and supportive. Just what his little walking tootsies need.

The question I get most of all about Freshly Picked is, “How to you justify $60 on a pair of baby shoes?”

Here’s the answer … Reid has 1 pair in each size. Ok, ok … 2 in some if he’s lucky. I aim for a nice neutral that matches most things which makes $49-$60 (depending on the style/color you choose) every 4-6 months (the rate he goes through sizes right now) not too bad if I tuck away a little at a time and watch for sales. Plus, if you consider other shoe options, even cheap ones, you’ll spend $10-15, and let’s face it, they don’t hold up. Freshly Picked is the better investment. Reid will wear moccs Max had and the new baby will wear ones that Reid wore. So, in that scenario, I’m down to $25-30/pair. And I rarely pay full price so it’s even better than that! Freshly Picked runs sales throughout the year, a common one I see is 25% off (on the main site and through Nordstrom too), and the BST market on moccs is solid, meaning you can both buy for less than retail and resell when your kiddos outgrown their Freshly Picked moccasins.

So, there you go. In my mind, that totally justifies the investment. Especially when I know these soft-soled moccasins are the best choice for new little walkers who are practicing their balance and steps.

Plus, it doesn’t get much cuter  than baby moccasin feet! Reid and I both love his new moccs from Freshly Picked — Capri in size 5 if you’re curious!

Do you find they wear out in the toes at all? I’ve had other brands of moccasins and find that the toes (especially on the top) tend to wear out before the rest of the shoe. Or maybe that’s unique to my belly-crawlers-learning-to-walk. :)

I am so in love with Textured Teal moccs. My husband saw them and he said that they reminded him of a pair of shoes he had when he was a baby. I did not believe him until he showed me a photo! It would be so nice to win these for our little one and take photos with them on!
