2016 Book List and Reading Goals For Next Year

With a new baby in 2016 I didn’t quite finish my entire book list from last January, but hey, can you blame me? New babes are busy and unpredictable!

I did LOVE many of the books from my 2016 list so if you’re looking for recommendations, definitely check out this list! I’d say my top nonfiction book was Found by Micha Boycott and my top nonfiction was The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. These gals are both amazing authors and I’ll definitely be reading more by them down the road!

Take a peek at all the books I read in 2016 here!

A few of the books I didn’t get to from my 2016 list are being scrapped in favor of new ones, but these few I’m migrating to 2017 …

Day After Night by Anita Diamant

Call the Midwife: Farewell to the East End by Jennifer Worth

Bel Canto by Ann Patchett

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

Wifey by Judy Blume

All ones I looked forward to reading, but didn’t get the chance to for one reason or another! If I’m smart, I’ll start off with them before getting too derailed about the mega list of new books I’m excited about.

For the most part, I decided I wanted a little more freedom in my reading this year so I’m only earmarking 12 specific books (in addition to the few above), one for each month. After that, anything is game – and I have so many in mind that I’m just itching to read! I seriously need a reading retreat one of these days!

But first, the 12 … what do you think I should start with in January?

Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee

Counting By 7s by Holly Goldberg Sloan

The Boston Girl by Anita Diamant

Speak by Louisa Hall

A God In Ruins by Kate Atkinson

The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo by Amy Schumer

Home Front by Kristin Hannah – One of favorite authors after reading The Nightingale

What Do You Do All Day by Amy Scheibe

The Shadow Queen by C. J. Redwine

King’s Cage by Victoria Ayeward

A World of Babies: Imagined Childcare Guides for Eight Societies by Alma Gottlieb and Judy DeLoache

Mary, Bloody Mary by Carolyn Meyer – Perhaps I’ll read all the Young Royals series!

Have you read Patricia Harman’s two novels? She was a midwife for years and wrote a memoir (The Blue Cotton Gown) about her experiences. I think you’d really like her fiction: The Midwife of Hope River and The Reluctant Midwife. Depression Era, Americana, true-grit type relationships, and lots of babies, moms, birth, and midwives. :)
