Do Not Pray for Easy Lives

I woke up this morning to a crying toddler distraught about the movie she wanted to watch. “Moo! Moo!” she shrieked. I gathered my bearings as she shoved my glasses onto my face – upside down. I responded with a whisper, reminding her that our baby was still sleeping, only to see that the “moo” she desperately wanted to watch had been cracked in half moments before she woke me. Goodbye Hello Kitty, rest in peace.

We tiptoed out of the bedroom to find a new movie as I explained that Hello Kitty had had an “uh oh” and was broken. She settled onto the couch with the Wiggles and I excused myself to the bathroom. That was an easy transition. I immediately sent my hubby a text, “Pray for me today”. He had been up since 4:30 am and was on his way to a meeting two hours away, but of course, he replied with a sweet, “Of course :)”. Golly it is sure nice to have him on my team. But still, I felt an overwhelming, “Can I do this everyday? Did I make the right decision in wanting to be a home full-time?”

I know in my heart I want to be here. I feel content and loved and purposeful. But that doesn’t make it easy. Actually, it makes it harder. I have to stay on my game lest Satan plant those questioning thoughts in my mind day after day, moment after moment. Daily I have to choose to stay in the Spirit of longing. Longing to be more Christ-like. Longing to fulfill my calling as a wife and mama.

Then, I opened up Facebook, you know, to see what the rest of civilization was up to this morning, and I read this:

O, do not pray for easy lives.
Pray to be stronger men!
Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers.
Pray for powers equal to your task.
Perfect timing. Thank you, Lord. That is exactly what this weary mama needed to read this morning. Today I will purposefully pray to be stronger. I will pray to meet my tasks with the power I know I have.

I feel guilty that I so often find my words of encouragement from social media rather than from actually opening the Scriptures. I am blessed to have a Savior that finds me where I am … a Savior who draws me closer to Him through a simple Facebook post. Amen.
I recently discovered Heather’s blog, The Extraordinary Ordinary, and can’t wait to continue participating in her Just Write link up. Sometimes I feel like this space gets bogged down with life updates, natural parenting research, and sponsors; As much as I want to continue those things I want to increase more personal posts where I share my heart. It isn’t easy to type whole posts between the interruptions that are my sweet children, but I know in the months and years to come I’ll look back on these heartfelt posts and cherish them. They will only be this small for a little while and I honestly wouldn’t trade it for a second. I mean, I’d welcome a break – but, I’d never trade it :) So, I’m hoping to stick with more posts like this. The little glimpses into my mind and heart. Of course, pending I find a moment’s peace like I did this morning :) Wiggles for one, nap time for the other, and a cup of almond milk Ovaltine and pancakes for me! Cheers and much love to the other weary mamas out there. You are not in this life alone – be encouraged and pray, not for an easier life, but for the strength and power to meet the tasks at hand.

Love it. Keep them coming. What a great verse to read. God finds us in the most unlikely of places and tells us what we need to hear. What a joy to pray not to have a burden lifted but for the strength to carry it. Beautiful.
