Essentials For Creating Independence While Potty Training

I probably shouldn’t hold my breath while boasting about my kid’s newfound potty independence, because, well, #momkarma, buuuuut, I thought it might be worthwhile to share 3 things I added to our bathrooms at home to create independence for my crew of potty learners.

So, here’s the scoop. Having 3 kids in 5 years means I constantly have someone in diapers and I constantly have someone learning to use the bathroom in one form or another. I’ve made some mega errors in our family’s potty training days – like the one time I let Jemma watch my phone while “sitting and waiting patiently for poo” and it almost fell in the toilet – but, on occasion, I stumble across something that really works. Giving our little ones the right tools and supplies to more easily transition from diapers to solo bathroom breaks is a big deal – so much so that I’ve stocked all 3 of our bathrooms at home with these essentials.

Step Stool — Bathrooms are made for big people. Thus, little people need a boost to comfortably sit on the toilet. Step stools are where it’s at!

Cottonelle FreshCare Flushable Cleansing Cloths — These things are divine! And truly amazing for little people and their parents too! They have CleanRipple® texture that ensure a confident clean and they have SafeFlush Technology™ too, so they begin breaking down as soon as you flush. You can take them on the go straight out of the box or pop them into a hard case so little hands can grip them better on their own.

Foaming Hand Soap — Once bums are cleaned up, it’s time for little hands to get disinfected. I’ve found that foaming hand soap makes less mess that bar or thicker pump soap while still getting the job done. Get some!

Very handy info. My son (22 months) is just starting potty training. It isn’t going well…

If it’s any consolation, my son wasn’t ready or interested until just before he turned 3 1/2. Before then we focused on talking positively about using the potty while reassuring him that when he was ready we would be close by to help :)
