Be Great Out There

The longer I’m a mom the more often I think, “I have no idea what I’m doing. Who entrusted me with these little people? How am I supposed to know how to care for them? What to teach them? What to say when they ask the hard questions about life?”

I’ve been a mom for a little over 1,000 days – practically no time at all. This is probably why I feel clueless. But, in my short time as a mom I have learned a lot about love. It’s amazing! And how powerful words can be when interacting with others, especially kids. So, very very powerful! Basically, I’ve learned that encouragement – the merging of love and words – can be the best medicine through the ups and downs of life. Just think, a friendly word can turn someone’s frown upside down, a thoughtful text can brighten someone’s day, and a genuine compliment can fill someone’s love bucket to the brim. Intentionally encouraging others is a lesson I hope to teach my kids and teach them well. We are never too busy or too tired to encourage one another. Never ever ever.

Nature Valley believes in the value of encouragement too. So much so that they’ve launched a super fun campaign – Be Great Out There, or in social media verbiage #BeGreatOutThere (use it and tap it to see all the GOOD stuff on social media)!

As I’ve discussed with my little ones, encouragement isn’t something we should ever hold back – we can use our words to spread love, give hope, and raise spirits. Earlier today, when this photo was taken of “The Original 3”  I simply said to Jemma, “I’m so blessed to have you as a daughter, God knew just what I needed and it was Y-O-U!” You should have seen her face light up. She was encouraged and you know what, her reaction encouraged me too.

I might not know everything there is to know about being the perfect parent, but I do know that speaking life into my kids will never be a detriment to either of us.
