This + That

This week we had the first glimpse of summer and it was amazing! 80 degrees in April, who even thought that was possible?!?

With the burst of nice weather, I’ve been practicing being “fun mom”. That’s how this photo came to be. After dinner one night we stole away to the squirting fountain and then walked to the ice cream shop. It wasn’t in the plan (and I liiiiiive by the plan) which is why I get fun mom points for spontaneity. Well, spontaneity and ice cream treats on a hot day. Go me!

Big things are coming in May … some scary, some new, some just beginning. I’m a slow processor though, so bear with me while I scrounge through all my thinking. Until then, a little this and that for your weekend reading!

I would be super curious to hear what someone who has been in education for longer than 20 years thinks about the fine motor expectations in that article. Particularly the pencil grip. My kids, who have really good fine motor skills both totally struggle with pencil grip. My 3rd grader just started holding hers correctly a couple months ago, so obviously I’m way more calm about my 6 year old still working on it ;) that second homeschooled kid always gets a better deal! I don’t know, i just suspect this rise in fine motor issues has more to do with a rise in academic expectations for 5 year olds than swipy apps.

Also marriage is really damn hard. This week is our 14th anniversary and yeah, we work really hard all the time. It’s not quite as exhausting as parenting 😂

It was actually my mom who first shared that article with me, Darah! She’s close to 25 years in kindergarten now …

And yes, marriage is wild. And not in the way I imagined! We hit 9 years this summer and I’m still amazed at some of the same ol’ things that we’re working through day in and day out.

I love that mural!!! Good memories of the boardwalk and pier from when I was a kid. Although, it’s much nicer and family friendlier now. :)
