Dominic doesn’t prepare meals around here very often. It’s not because he can’t, really, he’s an amazing cook! The blame all goes to his lame commute home from work. If we waited until he arrived home to start dinner, we wouldn’t eat until bedtime!

When the weekends arrive I usually have a meal in mind for Dominic to tackle. And now that we’re full into sport’s season, many of those meals have a down home, relaxed feel. Most recently, Dom was assigned to man the grill before a big game – because, let’s face it, nothing pairs better with sports than food fresh off the grill. Especially when the grilling is compliments of chef Dominic and fall fabulous sides are prepared by yours truly!

On the menu we have Foster Farms Fresh & Natural Drumsticks slathered in Stubb’s Sticky Sweet BBQ Sauce. That’s Dominic’s assignment. I’m on simple baked beans (as in, the kind you just warm up) and a delicious apple slaw. sticky sweet drumsticks

First up are the drumsticks …

Sticky Sweet Drumsticks

Ingredients

Gather your ingredients ^^^ and necessary supplies (heated grill, raw meat pan, tongs, and cooked meat plate).foster farms

Roll each drumstick in a touch of brown sugar and place on raw meat pan. Then, slather each drumstick in Stubb’s Sticky Sweet BBQ Sauce while the grill heats.  brown sugardrumsticks, slatherstubbs grillgrill

Place on the grill and turn to the medium low setting. Cook for 10 minutes, open the grill and flip each drumstick. Cook for an additional 5 minutes. Watch for those perfect grill markings, crispy bits and then check a drumstick for doneness – no pink means it’s ready to eat! drumsticks done

While hubby is manning the grill (or you, of course, because girls can grill too!), mix up your apple slaw. It’s easy and the perfect side dish to anything that comes off the grill since it’s cool and crunchy!apple slaw

Apple Slaw

Ingredients

  • 1 package coleslaw cabbage blend
  • 1 apple, diced
  • 1/3 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1/3 cup mayo
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Directions

In a large mixing bowl, toss coleslaw cabbage blend, apples and pecans. Set aside. In a small bowl, whisk mayo, browns sugar and lemon juice. Drizzle the slaw dressing and gently toss. Serve alongside those awesome drumsticks or other grill creation!

If you’re lucky, like we happened to be, everything cooks up at about the same time and your trio of sticky sweet drumsticks, apple slaw, and baked beans all arrive on the table at the same time! Get ready to dig in and enjoy the game, or a quiet Fall evening. Good food and good company are perfect for every season.sticky sweet drumsticks 2

A little about our choice of ingredients … Foster Farms Fresh & Natural Chicken is always fresh, 100% natural and locally raised in California and the Pacific Northwest. It has no added hormones and is American Humane Certified. Pretty much a win win when shopping for poultry for the grill! Stubbs sauces, marinades and rubs are pretty fantastic too since they’re gluten free and free of high fructose corn syrup. Stubb’s is also part of the non-GMO project so very soon I’m guessing it will have its official certification!

Get a grill date on your calendar ASAP and while you’re shopping for ingredients at Safeway or Fred Meyer, keep an eye out for an instant redeemable coupon for your Foster Farms chicken and Stubb’s sauce. This coupon will expire on 12/31/15 so you can save now and throughout the holidays! Hashtag – grillallyearlong :) safeway
