Homemade Christmas: Rice Cozies

Rice cozies are a family favorite!
I grew up with rice cozies (also known as warm/cold sacks or therapy sacks) as the perfect solution to whatever ails you.
Cold feet – rice cozy.
Tummy ache – rice cozy.
Bumps and bruises – rice cozy.
You name it, a rice cozy could fix it :)

Why I never thought to make them before, I don’t know, but for this Christmas I whipped up a bunch in different sizes and fabrics. I used regular rice from the bulk section scented with essential oil lavender.

I’ve been warming up one of the zoo animal baby rice cozies for Jemma before we go outside. I wanted her to have something warm to hold on to in her car seat since it takes awhile for the heater the warm up the back seat. She loves it!

I’m eager to try some other scents … or maybe even a blend of a few. What would you recommend? Also, is there a website where you can find essential oils at a lower price than the natural grocery stores? I’m also going to experiment with buckwheat as the filler. Then the rice cozies will have a cousin — wheat cozies :)

Oooh chamomille would be a nice calming scent for a rice cozy, don't you think? I'm really going to have to try one of these. So easy… why not?! Right?

how big are you making them? i'm working on some too and want to have a couple for around the house for the kids, but am not sure about sizing

The adult size ones are 10×14 (finished). The kid ones are random sizes of whatever scraps I have laying around :) ________________________________From: Disqus <>To: thatmamagretchen@gmail.comSent: Monday, November 21, 2011 5:53 PMSubject: [thatmamagretchen] Re: That Mama Gretchen: Homemade Christmas: Rice Cozies Disqus generic email template

vitacost.com has great prices on essential oils (as well as a ton of other natural products and grocery items)! They have free shipping and no tax…I do almost all my non-perishable shopping from this site! I have a $10 off coupon I can email you if you are interested.

I also realized a few weeks ago that I could make these and it's a plan to put one in my breastfeeding baskets I make for baby showers in the future. I love using mine for round ligament pain!
